Controversial Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is embarking on a fruitless mission if it sponsors a former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, for the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State.
Wike, who said this in a media chat with Channels TV, said that Melaye knew that he did not have what it took to be a governor of a state, adding that if Kogi people come out to vote for Melaye, it means they do not want development.
According to Wike, it is about governance and not about acting drama on national television, saying that when former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Saraki, brought Melaye to him (Wike), he (Melaye) knew what he said.
He said, “For me it is not only about Ayu. It is about what you have to offer. You have to show difference. You have the opportunity that at the primaries, elections will come like what they are going for now in Kogi State.
“And of course you have seen what is going on, how lists have been changed to favour a particular candidate who, as far as I’m concerned, is dead on arrival. There is no way, if what they are planning happens in Kogi State where they are giving opportunity to Dino Melaye, this is what I tell people, you have started to fail first.
“When you give Dino that ticket, you know you won’t win in Kogi State. Why will Kogi people say they will vote for a candidate like Dino? Are we joking? The mere fact that you are from Kogi, therefore any Kogi person?
“We are talking about governance of a state and we are not talking about drama. For Christ’s sake, PDP presents such a candidate and you mean that Kogi people want development? Let us stop the idea that he is from Kogi. Take for example, anybody from Lagos State should just come out and Lagos people should go and vote for him to be governor? I mean, that can’t be serious.
“Dino doesn’t have what it takes for Christ’s sake. What is he going to do? He knows it very well. He does not have what it takes to be a governor at all. It is not by coming to act drama on television. It is not about coming to Arise to abuse Wike.
“Ask Dino, when you say you are running for governorship, Saraki brought him to me. He knows what I’m talking about.”
