The Nigeria Police Force, Borno State Command has said that its operatives have arrested eight people suspected to be involved in the killing of a lecturer at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
The Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Daso Kenneth, who made this known in a statement on Tuesday said the suspects were arrested following a report filed by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the university.
The police spokesperson said that “He (CSO) reported to the police station around 6:30am that a body was found in the office, and identified as Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal.
“Our men swung into action immediately, cordoned off the scene of the crime, and evacuated the body to hospital for autopsy.
“Although we arrested eight suspects who are in our custody, investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the act.”
Kenneth urged the people within and outside the university community to remain calm as the police would do everything possible to fish out the culprits.
Recall that the deceased, Dr Kamar Abdulkadir, a lecturer of the Department of Physical Health Education at the university was brutally murdered on Sunday inside his office in the university campus by unidentified gunmen.
The attackers were said to have sneaked into his office and attacked him with a knife and a hammer.
His hands were peeled off when he tried to stop the attackers from stabbing him. They also used a hammer to smash his head and his spinal cord, killing him instantly.
The killers also carted away his vehicle and other valuables.
