Amid sustained nationwide outcry of rising hardship and high cost of living, President Bola Tinubu has said that Nigeria’s economy is looking good and that Nigerians should not worry about it.
President Tinubu said this while addressing members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council at the State House Banquet Hall on Wednesday.
He said that his government would bring down the inflation rate.
He said that his job is a hard job but since his campaign council promised Nigerians a good result, he has to work for it because there is no magic wand but to rest on the hope he campaigned on and push for every Nigerian to have joy.
President Tinubu said Nigeria’s revenue is improving and the country is taking its sovereignty and respect back around the world.
He said, “It is a hard job. You promised the people of Nigeria when you were campaigning for me for a good result. I have to work for it. No magic wand. I campaigned on hope. I have to rest on that hope, and push for that hope for the joy of everyone of us.
“The economy is looking good. Don’t worry about that. We know that we have the challenge of inflation. It is okay, we will bring it down.
“We are reengineering. Our revenue is getting better and we are taking our sovereignty and respect back around the world.
“Not that we have to go there and hire them to do the job for us. We are doing it ourselves. Whatever is happening to us, we have to solve it by ourselves.
“It is your efforts, your thinking, your resourcefulness, your investments, your dedication and hard work that can only get us there.”
24years Old South Africa Footballer Luke Fleurs Shot Dead
24years Old Luke Fleurs a South African footballer was shot dead by robbers in Johannesburg in the latest incident to shock the crime-ridden nation, police and his club said on Thursday.
Luke, adefender with Johannesburg’s popular Kaizer Chiefs team, was gunned down Wednesday night as he refilled his car at a gas station in a northwestern suburb of the city, police said.
“It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg,” his team said in a social media post.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”
Police said Fleurs was waiting to be served at a petrol station in his Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI when he was confronted by two armed men driving a white BMW.
“The suspects pointed him with a firearm and took him out of his vehicle, then shot him once on the upper body. One suspect drove off with the victim’s car followed by his accomplice,” said police spokesman Masondo Mavela.
The footballer was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, he added.
Authorities said they have opened a murder and car hijacking investigation. A manhunt for the suspects is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa paid tribute to Fleurs on social media.
“I am saddened that yet another life has been cut short due to violent crime. My thoughts are with the Fleurs and Amakhosi family, and the entire South African football fraternity,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, referring to the Kaizer Chiefs team by their nickname.
South Africa suffers from extremely high crime rates — a key political issue ahead of general elections in May, with opposition parties pointing to the government’s perceived failure.
