Despite the early morning heavy Police Presence at the venue, the Yoruba Nation rally has started in Lagos state.
The Ilana Omo Yoruba a movement aiming to achieve self determination for the southwest had said during the week that the rally would go as scheduled.
There have been speculation as to whether the rally would be held after a key figure in the movement Sunday Igboho was attacked on Thursday.
The rally was faced with an initial setback after combined team of security operatives barricaded the entrance to the Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota Lagos, venue of the rally.
As at 12pm, many of the people who came for the rally could be seen in their hundreds, chanting “Sunday Igboho’s” name while holding the ‘Yoruba Nation Flag’.
Some women wearing white attire, tied to their chests could be seen addressing the security operatives.
So far, there is no report of violence and altercation at the rally.
