In an outburst targeted at his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, Rivers governor Nyesom Wike on Monday highlighted his efforts leading up to Mr Obaseki’s re-election in 2020.
At a launch of Community Secondary School, Omuanwa, Rivers state on Monday, Mr Wike said he had served as Director-General of Mr Obaseki’s campaign organisation in 2020.
“I am not in the class of Obaseki, never! We are not the same, we can’t be the same. I was the DG of his campaign, I went there for three days,” Mr Wike said. “I stayed there without having my bath. I have never seen somebody like that in my life – a serial betrayer.”
Mr Wike’s comments come after Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, said PDP members who defected from the APC in Edo were not happy and do not feel accepted into the new party.
Mr Wike maintained that Mr Obaseki has been ungrateful to the party and those who supported his re-election after he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Wike also demanded that the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party to constitute a disciplinary committee against Mr Shaibu, emphasizing that he will invoke the sanctions of the party if this is not done.
Mr Obaseki had responded in a statement titled, ‘PDP is not your personal property, Edo cannot be procured’, that the party belongs to all members and that no member can claim ownership of it.
