Former Lagos state governor and now Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has said the Federal Government was ready to borrow money to fix the Ota-Abeokuta road.
Fashola who put the cost of reconstruction at N56bn said the government was not looking away from the road.
The deplorable state of the road had elicited several protests by residents and motorists.
The minister spoke during an inspection tour of interchange bridges on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The minister, who was received by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, appealed to residents and motorists to exercise patience.
Fasola, who put the cost of reconstructing the road at N56bn, added that reconstruction of failed portion would serve as palliative measure,
He said it would start and be completed very soon and would cost N13.4bn.
He said, “We are not looking away on the condition of the Ota-Abeokuta road unlike some people are saying.
“The Federal Government and the Ogun State Government are committed towards fixing the road.
“Works will soon start to do palliative work on the failed portions so that when reconstruction of the entire road starts, it will not be about wasting of money but a mere joining the portions to link each other.”
