The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has assured Nigerians that the party will clear all the debts incurred by the All Progressives Congress (APC) when the party returns to power, stressing that the major opposition party will remove the APC that lacks conscience in 2023.
The national chairman who spoke during a flag-off ceremony, of Oyigbo-Okoloma road in Rivers State on Wednesday, pointing out that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is an action governor.
“I am proud of the governor of Rivers State. Every PDP governor has been working very hard within his resources base to give the people the dividend of democracy. We are not like the other party (alluding to the APC).
“How can a governor leave his state and move to Abuja to become a party national chairman? How can a governor hide N19 million in a bank in a state where he hasn’t paid workers salaries? These are governors in a party that has been antagonising PDP. In my home state, the governor has done well.
“There were five roads that have not been constructed for years but today all the roads have been constructed. The governor ensured that the dividend of democracy is extended to the people. The PDP emphasizes development to bring democracy to the people,” Ayu said.
The former Senate President said that PDP is about development, pointing out that over 15 to 20 flyovers all over Rivers State are constructed by Governor Wike.
He added, “This particular road that is being flagged off today should have been done by the federal government which goes about borrowing money all over the place. Wike has challenged the APC by these development projects. Nigeria has no reason to borrow from China. PDP’s government cleared the major debts that we had but today our debt profile is very high. I promise Nigerians that the PDP government will clear all debt borrowed by APC when we return to power.”
He promised that he will work with other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) to reposition the party to retain its winning ways so that the party can move from the 13 states that it is in control now to 28 states that it controlled before.
“We will also have control of the National Assembly and will retain the Villa where we will put a president of PDP extraction in 2023,” he said.
